It has been a long time since I reached the South Pole – more than three years… time flies! About one week after I landed back in the UK from the Pole, I started my PhD which meant that any (outdoor) adventures were put on hold for a little while (plus recovering from the neck strain injury I sustained over the 58 days to the Pole took a while!).
Back to Finse
So now, finally! Heading back out to the Hardangervidda Plateau near Finse, Norway, with Erica Stanford as part of our training for the Polar Dogs Antarctica Expedition. Finse is always a great place to train with the conditions there, and being up on the plateau gives a good idea about what’s to come on the future expeditions.
Even a short trip packs long
Just a short time out this time (plenty more longer journeys over the next 18 months), but still so much equipment, with the food, clothing, skis, tent and everything (also picking up other things like the stove fuel in Oslo and of course the sleds themselves in Finse)… even for a short journey, still need to be prepared for all conditions. Head to Finse on Sunday. Great to be heading back out again!
