Ski technique training, Oslo, April 2026

In April 2026, after our training expedition, we spent three days with cross-country ski experts in Oslo, on an indoor snow track and on an outdoor track. We learned ski techniques to make us more efficient, and picked up tips on roller skiing — a way to practise when there is no snow. They also tested us for strength, stamina, balance and VO2 max, and measured us against polar explorer world record holders (fastest to the South Pole) to see how we compared and how much more we still needed to train (a lot, but we’re not aiming to set any speed records!). For our 2,000km crossing, every little efficiency gain will make a difference: it will reduce our total number of days on the ice, and make us more likely to succeed.
